MUSIC

So much happened through 2020 to make me want to go back to my hearts desire to sing, play and write music. After receiving a gift of an exquisite Zimmerman upright piano and a well loved and used Yamaha 1000 keyboard through lock-down I started to follow utoobs to get myself familiar with the keyboard again. I loved the old piano sound even though it was slightly out of tune.

My first piece I tackled was Eric Satie's Gymnopedie No 1. Then I started composing simple melodies and riffs to go along with my chants and then I started to add my lyrics. It was enough to get me excited about songwriting and even started to think about performing again.

These first few vids were taken and edited by the lovely Sammi Lane at the Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club, January 2021. Michael Porter (guitar), myself and Paul Moteikaitis (keys) were joined by River Rats Garry Searle on kit and Paul Kraak on bass and special guest Don Grimmett on Sax. Our brilliant harmonica player Karen Pater was unwell on the day. By jingos we had fun!!

Most of this year 2021 that is, I have been working with guitarist Michael Porter on building up a repertoire and having good fun times exploring songs close to our hearts and also completing Imad Super's amazing online course Voice and Soul to build up my confidence and skill levels as well as love my own voice and self. It has been a fabulous journey with Imad. Now  I am looking for other musicians to make music and magic together!

Time has moved on.. it's springtime 2023 on the Encounter Coast and these past couple of years have been unfolding in both troubling and inspiring ways. Whilst the material world wages war to attempt to keep its control and collapses into itself the creative world has been transforming in and around us offering hope and peace and a new way of existing.

I am an investigative little rat creature and that part of my nature wants to make sure those around me are safe and sound.

It's the girl guide in me too ... just a 'be prepared kindagal'!

Anyhoo.. while I am sorting and sourcing and planting and fermenting and keeping a close eye on my Mischa and her ailments I have been making music.

I love nothing more than to be home and either in the kitchen or the garden or at the piano.

After a year or so break and moving home TWICE,  at the end of 2022 Michael and I joined forces again for a couple of Open Mic appearances at Mum's Beard Cafe over summer.

The wonderful Nick McCann saw us perform and offered to play bass with us. He had a drummer friend that might  be keen he said.  Woo freakin' hoo!

I had put out for the best rhythm section in the hood to land at out doorstep and here was not only Nick but the amazing Gavin Scotton offering up their delicious talent!

Michael had also been working with the very talented Alex de Rosa on his original material and so we threw him a line to come and play rhythm guitar and his own material with our band. Things are now getting really exciting!

Early 2023 I put out to the great goddess of music gear to bring me a Nord. Well Well Well! Within a couple of weeks I had an Electro 2 hand delivered to me and for a bargain price! It's an oldie yes but it's a damn goodie.

It has been a solid 6 months of practice and musing around. I've only ever had one lesson (with the fabulous Jen De Ness) but that's it.. so forgive me keyboardists for my many shortcomings as a player!!

Long story long...

2023 has been about building musical relationships with these fine gentlemen and having fun with our repertoire. Oh and we ALL sing!!! We had our first quick hit out as a collective under the name of Oh My Giddy Aunt! at the SALA exhibition for the Hindmarsh Valley Progress Association in August and had a blast. We presented multiple variations of solo duo trio and full band and a range of original and cover material.

We love Boz BB JJ Steely D anything with cool grooves...from the sensational  70s in particular! I will get our set list up here soon!

Hopefully the summer of 2023/24 will see OMGA! become the party band of choice for those wanting great music and great grooves and great times!
